“Pretty in Plastic” is a 20 page magazine created by a team of 12 designers that I led. The magazine highlights the causes and effects of plastic surgery in today’s culture.
Develop a consistent magazine with a clear style, even though 12 different designers are working on different pages. Present complicated medical processes and surgeries in a way that was easy for anyone to understand.
Based on team discussions we had, I developed a style guide for the magazine along with page templates and examples of design approaches. I had to ensure that the style remained consistent, especially while presenting complex medical information.
I presented the style guide to my team of designers, ensuring that it was easy to understand and use. I oversaw the creation of the entire magazine, meeting individually with each designer to discuss their progress and answer any questions they had. These in-progress checks also helped ensure that all designers were using the correct style to create their pages, which saved time when checking for consistency of the final product.
We used infographics, diagrams, and maps to display information in a clean, visually appealing way that explained the processes as well as the causes and implications related to plastic surgery. My style guide helped ensure consistency throughout the magazine.
